Game review: Final Fantasy VII 2012 Re-release

I am back again to do another review

This time I will be doing a review on Final Fantasy VII 2012 Re-release

I will be reviewing the 2012 version's new features and whether it is worth buying.

This Re-release features a few new features such as cloud saving, a character booster which maxes your characters HP, MP and adds more gil, and  achievements. It also features improvements on current features such as an improved music, upscaled FMVs, improved shaders, a few corrections on the translation, and more bug fixes.

Final Fantasy VII was released in 1997 for the Sony PlayStation with a PC version that came out in 1998.In 2009 it was released in the PSN and in 2012 in was then released again for the PC and finally released in Steam this year.

The game remains as fun as the original with its impressive storyline and fun gameplay. However, the games graphics are the same as the PlayStation version which means that the game would look stretched and by using the option keep aspect ratio the game would have black borders and the option original graphics mode seems to make no difference to the game. The music of the game while improved is still not as good as the PlayStation version's music.

The cloud save feature is rather useless as you would require internet to save and load and its not like FF7's save file takes up alot so space(64KB). The character booster feature is definitely the most strangest feature. It gives all characters 9000 HP, 900 MP and 49,999 gil and while it maybe useful to get past a certain point in the game that is hard, it is a permanent feature which means that your characters will be almost invincible but will have low levels and stats which makes gameplay boring.

I would recommend this game to people who want to play this game because they did not have a chance to play it before and to those who want to play Final Fantasy VII again and do not care about the new features introduced. Those who have a working PS1 or have bought it on the PSN should stick to it as there is not much of a difference.

Score: 7/10
